oussama

The great national renaissance project of building a new Algeria has found its way to embodiment through huge achievements that have been achieved and major projects that have been launched in various regions of the country, and this is based on an ambitious strategic vision announced by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, five years ago.

In a documentary broadcast on Algerian television entitled “New Algeria… Vision and Embodiment”, in its first part, produced by the Directorate of Information and Communication of the Staff of the People’s National Army, the political and economic reforms that the country has witnessed during the last five years were highlighted, the basis of which was a new constitution that embodied the aspirations and hopes of the Algerians. In light of a democratic Algeria, prosperous, faithful to the values of November, and a state with a social character.

The engine of the profound reforms that were introduced at the legal and institutional levels was the 2020 Constitution, which – according to what the documentary reported from the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee of the National Assembly, Mohamed Amroun – is “one of the most advanced constitutions at the Arab and African levels,” highlighting the role of this amendment and its This was followed by an amendment to the electoral law that fundamentally changed the political class.

Political and institutional reforms have allowed the initiation of broad economic reforms, the goal of which – according to economist Mahfouz Kaoubi – is “to diversify incomes and reduce dependency on fuels,” stressing that this goal was embodied in “the new investment law, which included major facilities for national and foreign investors and the establishment of a digital platform for the investor.”

He added that this law issued in 2022 allowed the registration of “more than 7,000 new investment projects with the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency,” which indicates – as he said – “the return of confidence in the investment climate in Algeria.”

The documentary stopped at the most important major investment projects launched by Algeria in recent years, beginning with the “Bellara” iron and steel complex in Jijel Province, which occupies an area estimated at 216 hectares.

The complex aspires to produce 1.8 million tons of iron this year, with a turnover of approximately 160 billion Algerian dinars, while continuing to increase production capacity.

As for the “Tosyali” Algeria Iron and Steel Complex, it is an economic investment resulting from an Algerian-Turkish strategic partnership that was able to occupy the first ranks on the African continent and the Mediterranean region in the field of iron and steel.

The complex was able to take the lead by exporting its products to about 24 countries and aspires to reach $2 billion in exports. It includes one of the largest industrial furnaces in Africa.

The documentary also touched on the iron mine in Ghar Jbeilat, which is the largest mining investment in Algeria since independence and would accelerate development in the Greater South region. The same applies to the railway project linking Béchar and Tindouf over a length of 950 km.

The documentary also shed light on the Cement and Derivatives Corporation in Chlef, which is affiliated with the “JICA” complex and has witnessed a significant recovery in recent years after increasing the number of its production units.

In the state of Mascara, there is a new factory for processing calcium carbonate, which is the first of its kind in Algeria and aims to produce this material locally after it was imported from abroad.

In the Hassi R’Mel region in Laghouat Province, which is home to the largest natural gas production fields in Algeria, 20 Algerian institutions participated in the construction of a gas enhancement unit equipped with the latest technologies and aims to develop the field’s production capabilities. The project was delivered within the specified deadlines thanks to the dedication of Algerian competencies.

In the state of Biskra, the Al-Wataya complex, affiliated with the National Salt Corporation, benefited from an exceptional investment license and has a production capacity estimated at 80 thousand tons annually, which allows it to cover the needs of the national market for industrial, food and semi-pharmaceutical materials, reduce the import bill and move towards exporting to African and European countries, as he pointed out. The same documentary.

Within the framework of the approach to diversifying the national economy, the country’s higher authorities approved several measures and procedures to support and encourage the agricultural sector and revive agricultural investment, which reflects – according to economic expert Mourad Kouachi – Algeria’s orientation towards self-sufficiency and winning the food security stake.

Among the measures that contributed to advancing the sector, the same speaker mentioned “establishing a seed bank, giving a new role to model farms, and licensing the import of used agricultural equipment, with special attention to strategic agricultural sectors.”
