The official response of the US Capital Union regarding the case of its Cameroonian striker
The legal advisor for the US Capital Club, Mehdi Yahia, lifted the confusion regarding the issue of the official correspondence that reached the club from its Cameroonian counterpart, Dynamo Douala, against the backdrop of the Union administration’s delay in transferring the sum of the deal to include striker Lionel Christian Atiba.
Al-Ekhbariya was the first to publish the content of the correspondence last week, after it obtained exclusive information indicating that the Cameroonian club management was moving to file a complaint with the FIFA Disputes Committee.
On January 31, the African Confederation Cup champion completed the transfer procedures for the Cameroonian international striker, in the presence of Dinamo Douala club president Alphonse Biya, to Algeria to sign the contract.
The value of the deal ranged between 250 and 300 thousand dollars, according to what was confirmed by Roland Ikokobi, director of the R6 INTERNATIONAL SPORTS AGENCY USA agency, which owns the rights to represent Atiba.
In a phone call with the sports department of Al-Ekhbariya Complex, Ikokobi apologized for not disclosing the full value of the deal, claiming to respect FIFA laws that prevent agents approved by it from providing such information officially.
Banking procedures caused the crisis
The legal advisor to the Capital Union explained that the administration pursued all legal means to complete the final stages of the deal, perhaps the most prominent of which was the transfer of funds.
Yahya focused on this point by saying: “The procedures for transferring funds in hard currency abroad at the level of the Bank of Algeria are complex, and subject to a set of laws, which takes some time for it to reach its intended destination.”
He added: “The Federation’s management was ahead of time in order to complete these procedures even before their scheduled date, and this is at the request of the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Kamal Hasina, knowing that the laws of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) force it to pass through the clearing house, which will study the entire transfer file before granting final approval within a limited period of time.” “More than seven days.”
The issue of the player’s agent’s commission
The federation’s legal advisor was keen to address a second important point, related to the demands of Atiba’s agent, Ikokobi Roland, who wrote to the administration on three occasions in order to obtain the transfer commission.
Yahia stated in this regard, saying: “The Union negotiated with one party, which is Dinamo Douala, which has a contract with Atiba until June 2025, and this is in accordance with what is required by FIFA laws.”
Federation officials also personally negotiated with the player about the details of his employment contract without going through his agent, which is allowed by some International Federation laws regarding player transfers, according to the same spokesman.
Atiba also signed a pledge document authorizing him to negotiate directly with the US Capital Club, as stated by Yahi.
