Launch of the National Meeting on Agricultural Investment in the South – Algerian Dialogue

Today, Monday, in the state of Adrar, the work of the national meeting on agricultural investment in the states of the south, organized under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, was launched, and which aims to highlight the great potential that the southern regions abound with regard to developing agricultural production.
The work of this meeting, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in cooperation with the state of Adrar, was launched under the slogan “Agriculture in the South, the strength of our food security,” in the presence of the Minister of the Sector, Youssef Charfa, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, the Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun, the Minister of Irrigation, Taha Darbal, in addition to the governors of the southern states, as well as the President and Director General of the Sonelgaz Group, the General Directors of public banks, organizations of employers, farmers, professionals, and a number of economic operators.

The Greater South and the strategy to enhance food security

This “first of its kind” meeting aims to highlight the potential of the southern regions with regard to promoting the “new strategy” that was put into effect four years ago regarding structured agricultural investment aimed at enhancing food security and reducing the import bill, according to a document distributed to journalists on the occasion.
This meeting is also an opportunity to evaluate the support and accompaniment system that has been put in place since the establishment of the National Office for the Development of Industrial Agriculture in Desert Lands, as well as to highlight the investment opportunities available in these regions, which include 23 states.

Agricultural investment…new challenges and vision

According to the same source, this meeting will be an opportunity to discuss and study the obstacles facing investors and propose appropriate solutions to them, as well as strengthen coordination between sectors in order to give a new impetus and add a new dynamism to agricultural investment.
The document confirms that the new outlook adopted by the public authorities regarding agricultural investment is based on basic principles of enhancing food security by increasing national production.
