Badani: About the production of 12 thousand tons of freshwater fish by the end of the year – Algerian Dialogue

The Minister of Marine Fisheries and Fishing Products, Ahmed Badani, explained today, Tuesday in Relizane, that his sector seeks to raise the volume of production of the Aquaculture Division to 12,000 tons of freshwater fish by the end of 2024 and 100,000 tons by the year 2030.

In a press statement while supervising a study day on “The Importance of Investment in Freshwater Aquaculture” at Relizane University, the Minister stated that his sector “seeks to raise the volume of production of the Freshwater Aquaculture Division to 12 thousand tons and 100 thousand tons with the horizons of the year 2030.” “.
He added in this context, saying, “During the period from 2020 to 2024, we recorded a qualitative leap in the field of aquaculture and continuous development that allowed the total annual production to rise to more than 6,870 tons, and it is expected to reach 12 thousand tons by the end of the year 2024, that is, an additional production estimated at more than Of 7,200 tons, this is thanks to the financial and tax incentives and measures included in the 2024 Finance Bill for the benefit of this division.”

Mr. Badani pointed out that there are more than 22,000 farmers who practice fish farming combined with agriculture, after their number did not exceed 3,300 farmers in 2020. This is through the cultivation of more than 16,000 farm ponds with more than 2.8 million units of young tilapia fish.

In the same context, the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture has trained 1,068 farmers in the field of fish farming combined with agriculture until the first quarter of 2024, as well as 2,800 inmates of penal institutions and 520 staff of penal institutions in the same field, and this is within the framework of the cooperation agreement concluded. With the Ministry of Justice, the minister adds.

Mr. Badani praised the efforts made by the various actors in this division because of their importance in raising fish production and enhancing the country’s food security, as he stressed that “aquaculture is of great importance in the government’s work plan, and the President of the Republic gives it special attention within his 54 commitments, in view of The capabilities and capabilities that our country possesses in this field, in addition to the appropriate climate, especially freshwater aquaculture, which will inevitably contribute to the development of the national economy, the development of tourism, and the achievement of food security.”

The Minister had begun his visit to the state of Relizane by inspecting a model farm for aquaculture integrated with agriculture in the “Al-Musadia” area in the territory of the municipality of Belassal, Bougueza, during which he observed the process of cultivating young tilapia fish in its aquariums, after which he moved to the “Zawia” area of ​​the municipality of Zamora, where he inspected another farm for rearing. Aquatics integrated with agriculture with a production capacity of up to 100 tons annually of red tilapia.

At Martyr Ahmed Zabana University, Mr. Badani visited an exhibition of various active sectors in the Aquaculture Division and innovative projects for university students, in addition to opening a study day on “The Importance of Investing in Freshwater Aquaculture,” in addition to supervising the signing ceremony of the Marine Fisheries and Aquaculture Directorate for the state. Three cooperation agreements with the University of Relizane, the Directorate of Agricultural Services, as well as the Directorate of Vocational Training and Education in the state, followed by the delivery of training certificates related to the activity of integrating aquaculture with agriculture to a group of young investors.
