The National Gendarmerie services in Boumerdes were able to dismantle an international criminal network specialized in organizing illegal immigration trips by sea, as a result of which 49 people were arrested and a sum of money in national and foreign currencies and other items was seized, according to what was reported on Saturday by a statement by the same services.
The statement explained that, within the framework of combating crime of all kinds, units of the Regional Group of the National Gendarmerie in Boumerdes were able to “dismantle an international criminal network specialized in organizing illegal immigration flights, starting from the state of Boumerdes and its neighboring states, to the shores of the state of Oran, through African intermediaries, by organizing… Several separate operations.
He continued, “After obtaining information indicating the existence of a criminal group preparing to leave the national territory illegally towards Europe across the sea, and after taking and completing all legal procedures, the movement was carried out to the state of Oran,” where these operations resulted in “the arrest of 49 people, including one person.” (1) One of Burkinabe nationality, 4 tourist cars, two (2) motorcycles, 7 mobile phones, 3 boats and a 50-horsepower engine were also seized, in addition to an amount of money in Algerian currency estimated at 861,000 DZD, and another in foreign currency estimated at 360 euros. And 4 life-saving swim bras.”
The statement concluded that “the detainees were brought before the competent judicial authorities on charges of the felony of smuggling migrants by an organized transnational criminal group, the misdemeanor of entering the Algerian territory with residency without fulfilling the stipulated procedures, and the misdemeanor of leaving the national territory illegally through ports or places other than border posts.” .
