Zerrougui: Installation of 600 automatic banknote dispensers starting next month – Al-Hiwar Algeria

The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Sayed Ali Zerrougui, revealed today, Thursday in Algiers, the installation of 600 automatic banknote dispensers at the national level, starting in January 2025.

In a public session in the National People’s Assembly devoted to asking oral questions, the Minister confirmed that “the postal network will be expanded with its fixed and mobile structures, especially in isolated areas, by putting into service, starting next month, a program to install 600 automatic banknote dispensers, so that this process extends over a period of three months.” With the aim of covering the needs of citizens and modernizing dispensers that are subject to breakdowns.”

“60 mobile buses will also be provided to cover the financial liquidity needs of citizens throughout the country, pending the completion of the postal dispensers programmed for them,” according to the minister.

Regarding the mobile phone coverage service, Mr. Zerrougui explained that the three mobile phone operators (Mobilis, Jeezy and Ooredoo) are working on implementing plans in order to “achieve the minimum requirements for good coverage in population areas with a population of 2,000 people according to a specific schedule.”

In this context, he highlighted that the three operators are working to “expand and improve the network” across the national territory, making investments that have enabled the expansion of base stations to accelerate the pace of dissemination and intensification of the fourth generation service, with “coverage reaching 85 percent of the population.”

The national number of mobile phone subscribers has also exceeded “more than 49 million subscribers, according to the latest report of the Postal and Electronic Communications Regulatory Authority,” stressing that in parallel with this, his ministerial department continues to “accompany these customers to improve Internet and mobile phone coverage, especially by providing an additional frequency package.”
