The young Algerian player, Wassim Jazzar, died yesterday evening, Sunday, one week after suffering a serious head injury during his participation in the match of his team, Etoile Wadi El Maa, against Amal MaraOUna Club.
The deceased died at the age of 17, and the match was played for the regional youth championship of the Batna Regional League.
The young player appeared in a video clip hitting the ball with his head before another player from the Amal Marawana team intervened. After a simple contact, the deceased fell to the ground before he was taken to the hospital, after which he entered a coma for one week until he died.
Many Algerians expressed their deep sadness over the death of the young player, and they also expressed their anger at the circumstances of his death.
A number of activists criticized the organization of the match in broad daylight during the month of Ramadan. They also condemned the absence of an ambulance during the match, as the player was transported to the hospital by a regular car only, which prompted them to demand an urgent investigation into the tragedy.
In the same context, the President of the Algerian Football Federation, Walid Sadi, offered his condolences to the family of the deceased.
The Algerian Football Federation published, condolence Sadi said, “It is with great sadness and sorrow that Mr. Walid Sadi, President of the Algerian Football Federation, received the news of the death of the player of the Najm Wadi El Maa team for the under-17 age group, young Wassim Jazzar.”
