Towards the creation of an Algerian Mathematics Olympiad

The Minister of National Education, Abdelhakim Belabed, revealed the creation and structure of an Algerian Mathematics Olympiad, praising the positive results achieved by Algeria in its participation in various global, continental and regional forums.

The Minister, during his supervision at the National Secondary School of Mathematics, Mohand Makhibi Belqba, at the ceremony celebrating the International Day of Mathematics, explained that the establishment, structuring and introduction of the Algerian Mathematics Olympiad, for the first time since independence, falls within the framework of the efforts made by the Ministry, in preparation for the success of Algeria’s participation and improving its ranking in the World Mathematics Olympiad. “.

The Minister inaugurated the headquarters of the Algerian Olympic Committee for Educational Materials, announcing its establishment and structure for the first time since independence, stressing the harnessing of the necessary human and financial resources to facilitate its work according to a training program for supervisors and participants. With the possibility of expanding the membership of its affiliates to other fields such as physics, science, and others, in implementation of the instructions of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at developing scientific fields, promoting school elites, and caring for and nurturing them.

As an embodiment of the government’s action plan emanating from the program of the President of the Republic, the Minister affirmed that the education sector is working on upgrading the teaching of scientific subjects, especially mathematics, taking into account the requirements of economic and technological development, and in line with the state’s strategy to promote and improve mathematics education at various educational levels, and to encourage students to enroll in the mathematics and sports technical divisions. .

Belabed reviewed the total measures taken in this regard, whether at the central or local level, by strengthening the guidance mechanisms for the Mathematics Division, increasing the number of mathematics secondary school students in Al-Qubba, organizing competitive competitions among students in educational institutions, activating scientific clubs, and encouraging the establishment of mathematics clubs, artificial intelligence clubs, and clubs. Robotics in educational institutions.

In this context, the Minister confirmed that the efforts made in this context have borne fruit, indicating in the language of numbers the noticeable improvement in the upward trend, during the last three years, in the results achieved in the three educational stages in mathematics, in addition to the increase in the number of students enrolled in the mathematics and sports technical divisions. Which was also accompanied by an improvement in baccalaureate results and mathematics exam results.

The establishment of the Algerian Olympiad Committee for educational materials and the inauguration of a pavilion at the Mathematics Secondary School in Qobba to house the headquarters of this committee are part of this endeavor, renewing the determination to continue improving this educational material, in view of the developments taking place in the fields of modern technologies in our contemporary societies, in coordination with the relevant ministerial sectors.
