The Minister of Communication, Mohamed Laqab, confirmed that the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, will strive during the remaining year of his electoral term to achieve new gains for the benefit of the media sector, similar to the Media City, the foundation stone of which was laid on July 5.
Laqab said, in his speech on the sidelines of an intellectual symposium on the media and current challenges, which was organized within the framework of the National Press Day celebrations, which were postponed due to the ongoing war in Gaza, that his sector has finished embodying the remaining electoral commitments of President Tebboune, indicating that Parliament, with its two chambers, last week approved the Audiovisual Activity Law and the Written and Electronic Press Law, while it remains to install the regulatory authority and the Council of Professional Ethics, which will be soon.
The speaker pointed out that this symposium coincides with the geopolitical transformations in the world, most notably the qualitative shift in the Palestinian issue and the Zionist aggression against Gaza, which highlighted the unprofessional and immoral treatment of the Western media in general, in addition to the Russian-Ukrainian war, which brought about a radical change in media practice.
The Minister pointed out that all of these challenges and others impose many responsibilities on us nationally and regionally, praising Algerian journalists, who are considered among the vanguards of journalists in the world, in sacrificing and liberating the nation.
On Saturday, in Algiers, the Minister of Communication, Mohamed Laqab, supervised the opening of the activities of an intellectual symposium on “Media and Current Challenges,” as part of the celebration of National Press Day.
