The Minister of Communication, Mr. Mohamed Laqab, confirmed on Monday in the state of Oued that the press had accompanied the revolution in resistance and the struggle against French colonialism with great sacrifices for the sake of the nation’s independence.
In the opening speech of the national forum entitled “The Algerian Press and Journalists during the Colonial Era 1830-1962,” which was launched at the University of Shahid Hama Lakhdar in El Oued, Mr. Laqab highlighted “the importance of thoughtful historical research into the elites and media figures who struggled with the word, taking it upon themselves to sensitize and raise awareness of the necessity of fighting… “The colonizer.”
The Minister stressed the importance of developing a study plan for historical academic research to study the path of these heroes who accompanied the events of the French colonial era in Algeria, especially the glorious liberation revolution, considering – as he said – “the media person in that era was the conscious intellectual who carried out the functions of communication to mobilize and mobilize for the sake of liberation.” Motherland.
He added that the scientific production “references” of the historical research program and academic study of these struggling media figures “are a convincing scientific response to the tendentious propaganda of some French studies that indicate every time that Algeria was suffering from political and media desertification.”
The Minister of Communication also pointed out that one of the gains that we are proud of in the history of media in Algeria is that the national newspapers that were published during the colonial era had an Arab and Islamic dimension, and these newspapers always expressed the African extension of Algeria, which goes deep into history.
Mr. Laqab praised the diversity and multiplicity of the editorial and intellectual line of the Algerian newspapers published during the period of French colonialism, which confirms – as he stated – “that the history of the Algerian press is considered a true epic in the face of colonialism,” calling for research into a scientific approach between the Algerian press and the press of Arab countries during 19th century.
On this occasion, the Minister honored a number of media figures who made the glory of the Algerian press during the colonial era and the era of independence, including Ammar Talebi, Mohamed Larbi Zubiri, and Mohieddine Amimour.
He also toured the pavilions of an exhibition of photographs and newspapers during the colonial period, organized on the sidelines of the forum, before visiting the audio-visual studio at Hamma Lakhdar University in the valley.
It is worth noting that the National Forum of Algerian Journalism and Journalists during the Colonial Era 1830-1962, organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Shahid Hamma Lakhdar University in El Oued, in cooperation with the Ministry of Communication and the Laboratory for Research on the Economic and Social History of Algeria, with the participation of a group of academics, will continue for two days.
