The head of the Central Service for Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking, Police Superintendent Majeed Aknoush, revealed to Loaj that, during the first nine months of the current year at the national level, more than 88,000 cases involving more than 100,000 people were dealt with, through which more than 5 were detained. He explained that this outcome was shared by various national security departments, highlighting that his department alone was able during the same period to seize more than one quintal of cannabis, 79 kg and 140 grams of cocaine, and more than 2 million 204 thousand and 960 hallucinogenic tablets, noting that large quantities of Indian cannabis entering Algeria via the western border was seized by members of the National People’s Army.
The same official also revealed that during the end of last year, the heroin baron (who hails from an African country) and his partners of various African nationalities, including one Algerian, were arrested. They represent the largest active network in Algeria for selling “Shoshna” poison (which is a hard drug).
In this regard, he added, “Approximately 4 kilograms and 900 grams of heroin were seized in this case, which could provide 490,000 doses (injections) of Shoshna poison,” pointing out in the same context that Algeria “is not in the danger category” related to the drug scourge.
