The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that the Azerbaijani army had dealt with the provocations of the Armenian armed forces stationed illegally in the Karabakh region, and in a statement received by the “Al-Hiwar” website, a copy of which Azerbaijan confirmed that its neighbor, Armenia, had resorted on September 19, 2023, to a series of military provocations and attacks. Terrorism is widespread, and this is the text of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s statement:
On September 19, 2023, the Armenian Armed Forces in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan resorted to a series of military provocations and large-scale terrorist attacks.
For this reason, civilians and military personnel of the Ministry of Interior were killed and injured as a result of the explosion of mines previously installed for terrorist purposes on the Ahmetbeyli-Fuzuli-Shusha highway by sabotage groups affiliated with Armenian intelligence. In addition, our army units were exposed to mortar shells and light weapons of various calibres. As a result, two soldiers of the Azerbaijani army were injured.
In order to continue such provocations, the Armenian Armed Forces strengthened their combat positions and raised their units to a high level of combat readiness.
Local anti-terrorism measures have been initiated in the region in order to prevent expected large-scale provocations by the Armenian Armed Forces in the Karabakh Economic Region, as well as to ensure the implementation of the provisions of the Tripartite Declaration, as well as the disarmament and removal of units of the Armenian Armed Forces from our territory, and the neutralization of their military infrastructure. To ensure the safety of the civilian population, including civilian workers involved in reconstruction work in the region and in order to ensure the safety of our military personnel and restore the constitutional structure of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Within the framework of the measures taken, the front lines, deep positions and long-range firing points of the Armenian Armed Forces, as well as combat vehicles and military targets, were disabled using high-precision weapons.
The aim of the measures taken is to limit illegal military formations and military infrastructure.
The Azerbaijani side does not in any way target the civilian population. In this regard, it is necessary for the Armenian civilian population to stay away from military targets.
The Azerbaijani side has repeatedly stated that, contrary to the provisions of the tripartite statement signed on November 10, 2020, the continued presence of the Armenian Armed Forces in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan poses a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
The only way to achieve peace and stability in the region is the complete and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian Armed Forces from the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and the dissolution of the so-called regime.
