Today, Saturday, Youssef Charfa, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, chaired a working meeting with a group of operators of red tuna fishing vessels, operators of jeep boats (chalutiers), professionals interested in large-scale fishing (la grande peche), and other actors..
The meeting was devoted to discussing several issues that contribute to the public authorities’ efforts to enhance national production of marine and continental fishing with the aim of providing marine and aquaculture products to citizens at reasonable prices.
This meeting was attended by the President and Director General of the National Port Management Company, the representative of the Association of Banks and Financial Institutions (ABEF), the representative of the Algerian customs services, economic operators, as well as representatives of professionals.
During this meeting, several topics were discussed within the preparation of a road paper for the development of the marine fishing and aquaculture sector over the next three years, the most important of which are:
-Exploiting marine fishing licenses within the framework of international agreements.
-Preparing for the fishing season for Algeria’s quota of red tuna for the year 2025;
-Developing shipbuilding activity locally to strengthen the national fishing fleet
– The possibility of updating the regulatory texts related to the import of used fishing vessels that are less than five years old to become compatible with the demands of professionals and the established goals regarding increasing national fish production;
Developing aquaculture activity and making it one of the tributaries of food security.
– Accompanying marine fishing professionals, ensuring their social protection, and activating the biological rest allowance and bad weather conditions.
– Recruiting the necessary funding to promote investment in the field of marine fishing.
