The translation of the Friday sermon for the deaf and dumb receives a wide response in Oran – Al-Hiwar Algeria

The initiative to translate the Friday sermon for the benefit of the deaf and dumb, which takes place every week in the mosques of the state of Oran, received a wide response from this segment of people with special needs, for whom a space was allocated in the mosque.

This process, which is organized by the Social Association of the Union of the Deaf and Dumb in Oran, in coordination with the Directorate of Religious Affairs and Endowments, is the first of its kind at the state level, as it attracts dozens of deaf and dumb people who come from different parts of Oran and even from outside it to follow the Friday sermon and perform prayers, according to the organizers.

Abdul Qadir Adela, one of the supervisors of the organization, said that the aim of ensuring the translation of Friday sermons into the language of the deaf and dumb is to contribute to the integration of this group into society, noting that the circle of delinquents in this area is expanding, as it did not exceed ten people, while their number is increasing. Currently about seventy.

For his part, the imam al-Khatib at the Emir Abd al-Qadir Mosque in Oran, Sheikh al-Bahri Bashir, indicated that this initiative came with the aim of caring for this segment, especially since the parents of some of them complained that their children live in isolation on the religious side, as they receive little religious information.

Sheikh Al-Bahri highlighted that “nothing is more beautiful than conveying the message of the beloved Mustafa (PBUH) to this group,” indicating that a special space for women will be allocated in the presence of a sign language interpreter soon.

Saeed Masrawah, a sign language translator who supervises the translation of the Friday sermon, said that “it is not easy, as the dictionary of the language of the deaf lacks religious terminology,” highlighting that he has adopted new terms agreed upon with the deaf who go to the mosque to facilitate the delivery of the message to them.
