Today, Wednesday, the UN Security Council will hold a session on the situation in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon in New York to vote AI have a draft resolution submitted by the non-permanent member states of the Council demanding an end to the Zionist aggression against Gaza.
The draft resolution calls for all parties to abide by their responsibilities according to international law “with regard to persons in their custody,” and to provide basic services and humanitarian aid to the residents of Gaza, in addition to the parties’ commitment to international law and international humanitarian law, especially with regard to the protection of civilians and their civilian property.
It also calls on the parties to implement International Resolution No. 2735 and affirms that “UNRWA remains the backbone of the humanitarian response in Gaza.”
The Council requested the Secretary-General of the United Nations to submit a written report on the implementation of this resolution within 3 weeks and a comprehensive detailed report within 90 days to assess the needs in Gaza in the short, medium and long term, and to provide full detail on the humanitarian, social and economic consequences of the conflict in Gaza, in addition to an overview.
