The seawater desalination plant in Kodia Darawush in the state of El Tarf enters the experimental flow phase – Al-Hiwar Algeria

Yesterday, Wednesday, Sonatrach announced the start of the initial water flow phase at the Kodia Darawish seawater desalination plant, located in the state of El Tarf. This step represents the first start in operating the station and putting it under comprehensive technical testing, in preparation for directing the first quantities of desalinated water to the distribution networks.
This experimental launch came after the success of the electrical power connection process, which was completed by operating the station’s main power station. When it reaches its full production capacity, the station will provide up to 300,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day, contributing to meeting the needs of 3 million citizens with potable water, thus enhancing the supply of Al-Tarf State and neighboring regions.
The Kodia Darouch seawater desalination plant project is being implemented under the supervision of the Algerian Energy Company, affiliated with the Sonatrach Group, and completed by the Algerian Company for Industrial Projects, which is also a subsidiary of Sonatrach. This project reflects the complex’s commitment to supporting water security in Algeria.
This station comes within the framework of the complementary program to enhance water security in Algeria, which was approved by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The program aims to establish five main seawater desalination plants, with a production capacity of 300,000 cubic meters per day for each plant. These plants are scheduled to enter production during the current year 2025.
The Kodiat Darawish station is one of the vital projects that strengthen the country’s water infrastructure, ensuring the provision of water resources necessary to meet future challenges and achieve sustainability in the use of natural resources.
