The President of the Republic: Emphasizes the necessity of finding solutions to preserve the identity of the Kasbah – the new Algeria

The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, stressed today, Monday, the necessity of finding urgent solutions to preserve the architectural and historical identity of the city of the Kasbah, and issued orders and directives to several ministers and officials regarding projects and a plan of action to develop and modernize the capital.

The President of the Republic said after following a presentation on the strategic vision for the development and modernization of Algiers at the Palace of Culture, “Mufdi Zakaria”, that the city of the Kasbah is “the soul and pillar of the country’s capital, and its landmarks belong to all Algerians.”

The President of the Republic explained that “with the passage of time, the buildings of the Kasbah have eroded and no solutions have been found to its problems since the 1970s,” stressing the need to find “urgent solutions to restore the luster and shine of this ancient city.”

In this context, he stressed that the solution lies in the state’s intervention to buy privately owned buildings in this ancient neighborhood so that they become national property and then restore and rehabilitate them to embrace cultural, artistic, tourism and traditional craft activities.

On the same occasion, the President of the Republic also called for the restoration of the Riad Al-Fath facility in the capital and enabling it to provide services that meet the aspirations of the families who constantly visit it.

On the other hand, he stressed the necessity of completing the development works for Oued El Harrach and including the municipality of Oued Quraish within the strategy for developing and modernizing the capital.

Regarding the project to complete the aquarium in the capital, the President of the Republic ordered that it be “the largest in the Mediterranean region,” while giving the necessary importance to exploiting it in tourism activity, especially by organizing trips for the benefit of children and school students, calling on those in charge of the project to launch its own tender. “As soon as possible.”

The President of the Republic concluded by emphasizing the necessity of implementing these projects that would guarantee the residents of the capital a suitable living environment with modern facilities and structures that are at the level of the major capitals of the world.

After that, the President of the Republic visited an exhibition dedicated to highlighting the various projects that fall within the framework of this strategy and its plans, with the aim of making Algiers a pole of Arab, Islamic, African and Mediterranean radiation, as included in the explanations presented to the President of the Republic.

This strategy includes the white plan for urban development and the rehabilitation of buildings, as well as a yellow plan for transport and transportation in the country’s capital, in addition to a green plan that aims to restore ecological balances and develop the environment in the capital, and the blue plan that aims to restore the city of Algiers’ connection to the sea.

These plans are also available for many projects, some of which are under construction and others that will be completed in the near and medium term, in addition to the rehabilitation of the waterfront, as well as other projects related to several sectors.
