The national team improves its position in the latest FIFA rankings

The Greens finished their campaign in official and unofficial competitions in 2023 without defeat

The first national team rose to thirtieth place in the world in the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) classification, which was issued by the same body on its official website, on Thursday.

The Greens rose three places compared to last month, as their score rose by a full seven points.

While they maintained their fourth place in Africa, and third in the Arab world, after Morocco (13) and Tunisia (28).

The national team’s successful start in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers scheduled to be held in the United States of America, Mexico and Canada contributed to it gaining additional points when it comes to an official competition.

Coach Djamel Belmadi’s squad won at home against Somalia in the first round, with a score of 3-1, before confirming its good start in the Mozambican capital, Maputo, when it overthrew the local team 2-0 in the second round.

It is expected that the team will play at least two friendly matches before its next official exit, which will be on the Ivory Coast for the Africa Cup of Nations finals, according to what was confirmed by the President of the Algerian Football Federation, Walid Sadi.

Algeria is participating in the “Cannes” competition for the twentieth time in its history, having previously won the title on two occasions, the last of which was four years ago in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

The Desert Warriors will begin their campaign in the Ivory Coast edition by facing Angola in the city of Bouaké on January 15th, for the fourth group competitions, which also includes the teams of Burkina Faso and Mauritania.

On the other hand, the world champion in Qatar last year, the Argentine national team, continues to lead the FIFA world rankings, ahead of its runner-up in the same competition, the French national team, which England follows in third place.
