The names of former journalists were named in the “Mandela” and “July 05” seminar halls – New Algeria
The two seminar halls of the “Nelson Mandela” stadium in Baraki and the “July 5, 1962” Olympic Stadium were named by former journalists, after the greats of sports media, Mohamed Salah and Abdelkader Hamani.

The naming ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Abderrahmane Hammad, the advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of the General Directorate of Communication, Kamal Sidi Said, as well as the governor of the state of Algiers, Mohamed Abdel Nour Rabhi, and the governor delegate of the Baraki district, Abdel Wahab Ratima, in addition to the president of the National Organization of Sports Journalists. Algerians, Youssef Tazir, as well as a group of media figures and journalists’ families.
The Minister of Communications said, in quoted statements Algerian News Agency “The two new names were given to the seminar halls of Nelson Mandela Stadium and…July 5 Olympic– In the name of two media figures in the sports field, Mohamed Salah and Abdelkader Hamani, it came in implementation of the instructions of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as this process will continue successively across several states.
For her part, the granddaughter of the late Salah, Rayan Salah, expressed this honor, saying: “I thank the Algerian state for this honor. My grandfather was the pride of the Algerian sports media. His name remains high in the skies of Algeria, which always warms my heart. 5 years have passed since his death, and his name is still always present among us. He loved his country with an indescribable love.”
Two eventful journeys for the deceased journalists
The late Mohamed Salah was born in 1936, in the Syrian capital, Damascus. He died in 2018 at the age of 82, after nearly 50 years of giving. He began his career as a sports commentator in 1963 at the Algerian Radio and Television Corporation, and in 1972.
Salah joined the sports section of the first radio channel on the eve of the African Games that took place in Lagos (Nigeria) and participated in many programs. He also commented on many continental and international competitions and championships, including the 1982 World Cup. He gained great fame for his distinctive way of commentating.
As for the late Hamani, born on November 1, 1926, he joined the Algerian Radio and Television Corporation after independence as a technical officer, then founded the sports department in the same institution (1965/1966). During his professional career, Hamani covered many sporting events and events, most notably the 1973, 1976, and 1980 Olympic Games and the 1982 World Cup. He was also famous for presenting the “Tele Sport” program in the 1970s. Abdelkader Hamani joined the Supreme Comrade in 1984 at the age of 58 years.
