The Muslim World League, the major international Islamic organization, signed a cooperation agreement with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the largest network of humanitarian aid in the world, comprising 192 national societies and about 15 million volunteers, to provide a comprehensive package of humanitarian support to those affected by armed conflicts, the displaced and migrants in number of countries around the world.
The agreement was signed in the American capital, Washington, between: the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, the President of the Association of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, and the Secretary-General and CEO of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Jagan Chapagin.
Sheikh Dr. Al-Issa stressed that cooperation between international organizations is crucial to achieving humanitarian goals, and said: “The Muslim World League is pleased to cooperate with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, to provide support to those affected by conflicts, especially alleviating the suffering of migrants and displaced persons.”
While Gagan Chapagin said: “We are confident that our partnership with the Muslim World League will be important in order to reach those affected by disasters and crises around the world. Our shared commitment to humanity and humanitarian action will be strengthened through this cooperation.”
According to the agreement, the Association will contribute resources, knowledge, experience, contacts, disseminate information, and review and evaluate each project in detail, while the International Federation will implement the planned projects with the agreed quality and timing, and provide regular reports on that for follow-up.
The two parties have identified priority areas for this agreement, which will include, but are not limited to: the provision of “humanitarian” assistance to the affected people and affected countries, such as cash assistance and assistance in the form of vouchers provided to the displaced to support their basic needs, and immediate relief to the evacuees, as well as to families with children, Ensure the provision of cash support to the most vulnerable groups, in addition to a shelter program for those who have left their homes, as well as those whose homes have been damaged or destroyed.
It will also include providing assistance in the areas of water, sanitation, hygiene and health care, including mental health and psychosocial support, in addition to strengthening the response capabilities of national communities and their ability to respond to emergencies.
The areas of the agreement also include supporting migrants and displaced persons from disasters and crises in several regions, through humanitarian service points and other operations run by the International Federation and its partners, including rescue operations, providing humanitarian support and protection for migrants and displaced persons, in addition to food and non-food items, and emergency shelter. , water, sanitation and hygiene, health care, including mental health and psychosocial support, restoring family links, specialist referrals, child protection, preventing violence, and combating human trafficking.
Projects also include promoting social cohesion between people on the move and host communities through initiatives focused on reducing stigma, discrimination and xenophobia, and supporting people on the move and host communities to enhance livelihoods, community resilience, and economic and social reintegration.
According to the agreement, the two parties will collaborate on innovative financing structures and activities, including in particular Sharia-compliant, and other fundraising tools, such as donations based on zakat or sadaqah.
