The Ministry of National Education has determined the method of pedagogical evaluation for primary school students for the 2023/2024 school year, noting that the transition to the second year of primary school will be automatic for every student who continued his studies regularly in the first year.

According to a publication of the Ministry of Education, in the pedagogical evaluation of the primary education stage, the patterns of pedagogical evaluation are adopted through continuous evaluation, which is an evaluation that takes place in parallel with the learning process. It aims to value the learner’s effort, whatever its nature and form. It concerns languages ​​and mathematics only.

Continuous assessment in languages ​​concerns oral expression and communication activities: reading, memorization, writing, and dictation in the first phase. Oral expression and communication activities, reading, memorization, and written production in the second and third phases.

Continuous assessment in mathematics includes the fields of numbers, arithmetic, quantities, measurement, data organization, space, and geometry. A numerical score is given to evaluate the student’s participation in the section, answering questions, participation in the section, and adherence to instructions, as well as to all written products completed in the section notebook, the various notebooks designated for completing activities, and the various completed projects. The numerical score is also accompanied by qualitative notes that express the results achieved as well as the difficulties recorded in order to address them.

Regarding the semester tests, the Ministry of Education has allocated one semester test for each of the subjects prescribed in the primary education stage, where the semester tests are completed according to the specified schedule. Pedagogical evaluation also concerns effective participation in the department, where the professor gives the student a numerical score in these activities, which is accompanied by qualitative notes that express the positive results he achieved or the difficulties he faced in order to address them. As for the assignments, one written letter in each educational subject and in each semester, according to a calendar determined by the middle school director, along with the professors in charge of coordination in the departments.

The professors record the continuous assessment scores (activities and assignments) in the student’s correspondence notebook, accompanied by qualitative and expressive notes. So that parents can follow up on their children’s learning and the difficulties they may suffer from. Semester exams are conducted according to the specified schedule, with the need to inform students and their priorities in advance of the exam schedule.

The quarterly tests for all educational subjects are standardized for one level in each middle school, in order to achieve the principle of equal opportunities among students.

The Ministry called for the necessity of respecting the calendar specified for the semester tests, working to correct all assessment activities with the students, and making sure to enable them to view their answer sheets so that they can identify the strengths to enhance them and the weaknesses to correct them, in addition to following up on the students’ work and investing in the results they obtain.
