Communication Minister Mohamed Oqab meets with the general directors of media institutions affiliated with the sector at the headquarters of his ministerial department

The Minister of Communication, Mohamed Laqab, met, on Tuesday, at the headquarters of his ministerial department, with the general directors of media institutions affiliated with the sector, according to a statement by the same ministry.

In his first meeting with the officials of these media institutions – the same source explains – “the minister listened to the various concerns raised by those in charge of them, and I also gave him, by the way, full explanations about the functioning of each media institution.”

In this regard, Oqab stressed “the need to address the various problems raised, and he also insisted on giving the utmost importance to promoting media work with purposeful and professional contents.”

The minister also asked those in charge of these institutions to “submit an accurate, objective and honest report in order to be able to draw a road map for the future.”

At the conclusion of the meeting – the statement adds – the minister affirmed his keenness to overcome the obstacles presented through cooperation and coordination between the bodies and at various levels.

On Monday, the Prime Minister, Ayman bin Abd al-Rahman, appointed Muhammad Laqab as the new Minister of Communication at the Government Palace. The new official in the media sector, in a speech during the inauguration ceremony that took place in the presence of central executives in the ministry and directors of national media institutions, expressed his hope that he would be at the level of confidence placed in him by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, by appointing him at the head of the Ministry of Communication.

The new minister called on all concerned, including the ministry’s executives, directors of public and private institutions, and journalists, to “put hands in hand for the advancement of this sector.” And after appreciating the efforts and achievements made by his predecessors at the head of the ministry, especially those related to the legislative system, similar to the organic law related to media, Okab stressed the importance of continuing to complete this system through the approval of the law related to audiovisual activity and the written and electronic press law to proceed Then in “building the institutions framing the sector, foremost of which is the authority to control the written and electronic press, and then the installation of the Professional Ethics Committee.”
