The statement of the Ministry of National Defense, on Wednesday, stated that, within the framework of combating organized crime, and in continuation of the tireless efforts aimed at confronting the scourge of drug trafficking in the country, joint detachments of the People’s National Army, in coordination with various security services during operations across the military regions, arrested 46 drug dealers and thwarted attempts to introduce 8 quintals and 40 kilograms of processed kif crossed the border with Morocco, while 251,849 hallucinogenic tablets were seized.
In the same context, detachments of the People’s National Army in Tamanrasset, In Guezzam, and Bordj Badji Mokhtar arrested 317 people and seized 26 vehicles, 254 electric generators, 113 hammers, 19 metal detectors, and 13.5 quintals of a mixture of gold ore and stones. In addition to quantities of explosives, blasting equipment and equipment used in illegal gold prospecting operations.
The National People’s Army detachments also arrested 48 other people and seized a Kalashnikov machine gun, 20 hunting rifles, two automatic pistols, 50 quintals of tobacco, 40 tons of food intended for smuggling and speculation, and 243,549 units of various fireworks, during separate operations. Across the national territory, while border guards, in coordination with the National Gendarmerie and Customs services, thwarted attempts to smuggle quantities of fuel estimated at 28,083 liters in Tamanrasset, Tebessa, Souk Ahras, and El Tarf.
On the other hand, coast guards thwarted illegal immigration attempts on the national coast and rescued 279 people who were on board traditional-made boats, while 366 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested across the national territory.
These operations, carried out by units and detachments of the People’s National Army, come in the context of the continuing efforts made to combat terrorism and combat organized crime in all its forms, and reflect the extent of the high professionalism, constant vigilance and readiness of the armed forces throughout the national territory.
