The opening session of the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, today, Friday, was marked by the broad condemnation by leaders of countries and governments and officials of participating international bodies of the Zionist aggression against the Palestinian people. .

For his part, the President of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Dennis Francis, called for an “immediate cessation” of the Zionist aggression against Gaza and work to bring humanitarian aid into the areas affected by this aggression on an “urgent” basis, stressing that a peaceful and political solution is “the only solution.” To settle the Palestinian issue once and for all, expressing his support for every initiative in this regard.
He also stressed the need to ensure respect for the principles of human rights and spread the values of peaceful coexistence within the framework of international laws and conventions, noting that “these principles are the same ones that the Non-Aligned Movement was founded to defend.”
In the same context, the UN official announced his support for all initiatives aimed at “activating the pivotal role of the Non-Aligned Movement in the future and opening new horizons for cooperation among its members.”
In turn, the representative of the Republic of Turkey called on the international community to take “immediate and effective action” to provide relief to the Palestinian people and support them in self-determination and establishing their independent state on their lands with Jerusalem as its capital.
It is noteworthy that Algeria had called, during the ministerial preparatory meetings for this summit, to revive and activate the role of the small group of Non-Aligned Movement countries, represented in the Security Council, and to authorize this bloc to take actual initiatives, in order to stop the Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip and lift the siege imposed on it.
