Sonatrach signs a protocol of understanding with Huawei Telecommunications Company – Algeria – Algerian Dialogue

Today, Tuesday, the Sonatrach Group signed a memorandum of understanding with the “Huawei Telecommunications Corporation – Algeria”, aiming to discuss opportunities for cooperation in the fields of digitization and information technology, according to a statement by the General Assembly.

The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the parent company “Huawei” in Shenzhen, China, in the presence of the President and General Manager of Sonatrach, Rachid Hachichi, and his counterpart from “Huawei”, Hua Liang.

According to the statement, “This memorandum will allow both Sonatrach and Huawei Telecom-Algeria to establish an appropriate framework for discussions on cooperation opportunities in the fields of digitization and information technology, which include a wide range of fields, especially those related to cloud computing, data centers, information networks, and communications. In addition to cybersecurity.”

The signing of this memorandum expresses Sonatrach’s “explicit ambitions to develop cooperation in the field of digital transformation, which the company considers to be a fundamental driver that allows it to improve its operations, fully exploit its capabilities and capabilities, as well as adapt to current challenges.”

In addition to this signing ceremony, Mr. Hachishi and his accompanying delegation made several field visits on June 10 and 11, 2024, where on the first day he visited Huawei’s cloud data center in Dogan Province, as well as the cybersecurity center of this leading company in the field of digital technologies.

He also visited the university center affiliated with the same company called “Huawei Ox Horn”, which is a reference center for technological research and development in the field of information and communications.

The next day, the delegation visited the “Huawei Power and Digital Capabilities Exhibition” in Shenzhen, before visiting Huawei’s headquarters. The delegation stopped at the “Digital Transformation Center” and received technical presentations and explanations about the activities of this center for advanced technologies, in addition to the latest technological solutions developed by Huawei. In the field of renewable energies, in particular, technological solutions related to storing electricity through batteries, according to the statement.

This visit was followed – according to the same source – by a high-level meeting between Mr. Hachishi and Mr. Liang, which culminated in the signing of a memorandum of understanding for a strategic partnership between Sonatrach and Huawei.

The complex indicated in its statement that this cooperation “will enhance research and development activities and experimentation with digital solutions in key areas in order to meet the challenges posed by the development of the oil and gas sector. It will also encourage the creation of a suitable environment for innovation and continuous improvement thanks to specialized training programs.”
