Signing of a cooperation agreement between Afripol and Kaspersky in the field of combating cybercrime

Today, Monday, in Algiers, a cooperation agreement was signed between the African Union Police Cooperation Mechanism (AFRIPOL) and the global cybersecurity and digital privacy company, Kaspersky, to enhance cooperation in the field of combating cybercrime and enhance the exchange of information and data related to cyber threats.

This agreement was signed at Afripol’s headquarters in Algiers by the acting CEO of Afripol, Mr. Jalal Shalba, and the founder and CEO of Kaspersky, Mr. Eugene Kaspersky.

This agreement, which is valid for a period of 5 years, stipulates “enhancing the exchange of data related to cyber threats and trends in this type of crime,” and according to this agreement, Kaspersky will “deliver this data to Afripol in order to conduct criminal intelligence analyses.”

This cooperation also includes “providing support, expertise, and technical knowledge in the field of information security analysis by Kaspersky expert teams.”

Strengthening digital defense on the African continent

Following the signing ceremony, the Executive Director of AFRIPOL, Mr. Shalba, considered that this agreement is “a major step towards strengthening digital defense on the African continent and protecting the digital space for African citizens,” in addition to “confronting cyber threats.” This cooperation, as he said, enhances the work of Afripol “In Combating Cybercrime”.

In the same context, he stressed that by signing this agreement, “Afripol is taking an important step with Kaspersky to enhance flexibility and build digital confidence in Africa.”

In turn, the company’s founder and CEO, Mr. Kaspersky, explained that this agreement “will further contribute to enhancing cyber resilience and making cyberspace safer for everyone.”
