The same court also ruled, in the same case, with a present ruling of 3 years imprisonment and one (1) million dinars effective fine against the former Minister of Industry, Small and Medium Enterprises and Investment Promotion, Mohamed Ben Maradi.
Four other defendants are being pursued in the case, including two Belgian nationals who were sentenced to sentences ranging from 4 years in prison to acquittal.
The defendants were convicted on charges of abuse of office, squandering public funds, granting undue privileges, peddling influence, and concluding deals in violation of laws and regulations for the purpose of granting undue benefits to others.
The matter relates, according to the merits of the case mentioned in the referral order, to the existence of transgressions and violations that affected the Public Institution for Industrial Construction and Civil Engineering on behalf of a Belgian company, “A.T.E.”
