The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Youssef Charfa, received the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Qu Dongyu, who is visiting Algeria, accompanied by a high-level delegation.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Agriculture, today, Thursday, the two parties discussed ways to strengthen the partnership between Algeria and FAO in the field of agriculture and food security, while noting the efforts made by FAO to accompany the countries of the South to achieve sustainable development goals.
Yesterday, Wednesday, the Director-General of FAO noted the role of Algeria as the largest African country in promoting South-South cooperation, especially within the framework of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development.
The same official confirmed that FAO is ready to support Algeria in implementing its development programs such as the Green Dam.
The Minister gave a brief presentation on the strategy developed by Algeria to develop agriculture and enhance food security, and the Algerian experience in the field of rural development with the possibility of sharing it with other countries.
The two parties discussed areas related to the agricultural sector, especially developing water-saving agricultural irrigation systems, adapting to climate change, combating desertification, improving production systems and valuing products in rural areas, and improving agricultural yields.
