Security Council reform is the focus of the meeting of the Committee of Ten Heads of State and Government of the African Union
Today, Monday, the 11th ministerial meeting of the Committee of Heads of State and Government of the Ten African Union to Reform the Security Council began at the Abdellatif Rahal International Conference Centre.
Algeria had confirmed its readiness to contribute “with all honesty and sincerity” to the collective effort aimed at mobilizing more international support for the common African position to reform the UN Security Council, and called for the necessity of establishing a “comprehensive, balanced and integrated” reform project for this international body, which goes beyond the scope of expanding membership.
It has also previously affirmed on numerous occasions its commitment to contributing to efforts to strengthen and advance the unified African position on the issue of Security Council reform, especially within the framework of its non-permanent membership in this UN body, in accordance with a comprehensive and integrated approach that ensures the correction of historical injustice against the African continent.
The Committee of Ten was formed in 2005 and consists of 10 African countries, namely Algeria, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Kenya, Libya, Namibia, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Senegal and Zambia. Its mission is to promote and support the unified African position in the ongoing governmental negotiations within the framework of the United Nations regarding Security Council reform.
