Sayhi: Strategies to promote aging – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazaeryya

The Minister of Health, Mr. Abdel-Haq Saihi, supervised this Thursday morning, accompanied by the Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Issues, Kawthar Kreiko, and the Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security, Faisal bin Talib, a ceremony held in honor of our fathers and mothers at the Nursing Home in Daly Ibrahim in the capital, on the occasion of the commemoration of the National Day of Persons The elderly under the slogan “Enjoying green spaces and a safe environment is a right for every elderly person”, as this year coincided with the celebrations of Eid Al-Fitr, to share their joy and bring joy and happiness to their souls and draw a smile on their faces in a joyful family atmosphere.
In his speech on the occasion, the minister mentioned that celebrating the National Day of the Elderly Persons is an opportunity to honor our mothers and fathers, stressing that the wisdom they possess through their past is essential for us because it illuminates the present, which will enable us to better prepare for the future.
The Minister of Health indicated that the improvement of living conditions in Algeria has led to an increase in the average life expectancy from 49 years in 1962 to 78.1 years for women and 74.5 years for men in 2020, an increase of nearly ¼ century. But the goal is to allow elderly people to live in good health, and to respond to the demographic transition and prolong the life of individuals, Algeria has joined the process of the World Health Organization that aims to improve opportunities for good physical, social and mental health, and to enable the elderly to participate actively and vitally in society, and to enjoy an independent life with quality.
Professor Abdelhak Sayhi also added that Algeria has adopted the global strategy based on prevention for healthy aging, through the following:
Primary prevention: which aims to strengthen the means that allow:
Slow down the aging process
Control of risk factors that lead to loss of autonomy.
Secondary prevention that focuses on:
Detect, diagnose, and treat, as early as possible, diseases that lead to dependence.
Saihi stressed that it is important to provide preventive means for everyone in order to promote healthy aging through the promotion of healthy lifestyles and the possibility of elderly people accessing safe and stimulating environments, and the increase in the percentage of the elderly in the population represents a challenge for all, and appropriate strategies and measures must be put in place to meet this challenge, for example Reviewing the nominal list of medical specialties, taking into account the characteristics of the demographic and epidemiological transition, which aims to improve prevention and care for the elderly with an integrated and comprehensive vision of aging, taking into account their conditions and concerns.
The Minister also commended the great work carried out by the Ministry of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Issues through all the strategies developed for the benefit of elderly people, and this work has allowed us to respond to the needs of this segment of the population in a family environment, full of sympathy with strict respect and in accordance with our beliefs and principles.
The same speaker explained that celebrating this day is one of the special moments that bring us together and reminds us of the importance of our values ​​and the bonds of humanity and solidarity that we want to build and strengthen. Our sectors provide health care for elderly people, and gifts were distributed to elderly people on this occasion.
