Professor Noureddine Yassa: We want to make Algeria a regional center for the production and export of green hydrogen – Algerian Dialogue

Professor Noureddine Yassa, Governor of Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency, highlighted, on Tuesday, the ongoing efforts to make Algeria a regional center for the production and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives such as ammonia at the lowest cost.
During his intervention on national radio, Yassa emphasized that the green hydrogen strategy produced great dynamism that went beyond the national scope and allowed the creation of new divisions in the sectors of higher education and vocational training, as well as a plan to implement four projects with foreign partners.
The first guest explained that the national strategy for renewable energies is based on the trinity of efficiency, sobriety and diversification, in addition to relying on green hydrogen, to embody the bet of reaching a balance between renewable energies and their fossil counterparts.
Yassa pointed out the great development witnessed by renewable energies in Algeria, as the general volume has risen to 589.7 megawatts, of which 460.8 megawatts are outside hydropower, which includes 422.6 megawatts connected to the grid and 38.2 megawatts off the grid.
Yasaa explained that his interests are keen to provide the requirements for an attractive business environment to develop the renewable energies system, revealing that a technical reference for energy-efficient lamps is currently being prepared, so that the quality will be guaranteed to revive a national industry for renewable energies.
He added: “We are looking forward to electric buses, provided that a large portion of renewable energies are integrated into the electrical mix in a way that ensures efficiency,” adding that the market for economical lamps has developed greatly in Algeria due to their availability and low cost.
In addition to confirming the existence of oversight to monitor the quality of economical lamps, and the provision of equipping 955 schools with solar energy systems, representing a total energy estimated at 3.9 megawatts, Yassa pointed out that he is betting on the creation of more small and medium enterprises in various fields of renewable energies, and working to accompany companies and other dealers.
The Governor of Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency concluded that there are projects under implementation in several states, coinciding with the recorded jump in the production of solar panels.
The Governorate of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, which was established at the end of 2019 by the Prime Minister, recorded a significant increase in off-grid solar energy installations during the last three years, as solar energy groups with a total power estimated at 19.3 megawatts now constitute more than half (51%). ) of an off-grid solar barn.
At the end of 2022, 5,226 solar energy kits were installed in isolated areas, including 2,883 solar kits during the period between 2020 and 2022, and 1,102 kits in 2022.
