The 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement began today, Friday, in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, under the slogan “Strengthening Cooperation for Shared Global Prosperity,” with the participation of Prime Minister Nadhir Arbawi, representing the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by Prime Minister Nadhir Arbawi, President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune congratulated Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who was recommended as Chairman of the 19th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement. Stressing that Algeria will seek, during its term in the Security Council, to defend issues and build bridges of dialogue.
By the way, the President of the Republic pointed out the importance of standing by the Palestinian issue and the Western Sahara issue, noting that the path of the Non-Aligned Movement dictates that we stand with the Western Sahara issue and the right of its people to self-determination. He also stressed the necessity of standing with the Palestinians in their plight, saying: “We must stand with the Palestinians and hold the occupation accountable for its crimes.”
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune also considered that the founding principles of the Non-Aligned Movement today acquire renewed value in light of the return of the option of resorting to force as an alternative to diplomatic efforts in resolving international conflicts,” adding in his speech before the Non-Aligned Summit “the erosion of the collective security system, of which the United Nations is its basic foundation.” In light of its structural inability to put an end, or even curb de facto policies and attempts to impose the interests of the strong on the weak, and to deal with the issues that are at the heart of our concerns by favoring the logic of selectivity and the policy of double standards.”
It is noteworthy that the Republic of Uganda took over today, Friday, the rotating presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement from the Republic of Azerbaijan, which headed the movement in the period between 2019 and 2024.
The rotating presidency was handed over on the occasion of the 19th summit of the movement in Kampala, with the participation of heads of state and government of this organization, including Prime Minister Nadhir Al-Arbawi, representing the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
