Today, Sunday, the President of the Republic said, in his message on the occasion of the commemoration of the National Day of Memory commemorating the massacres of May 8, 1945, that “the state is determined in a new, lofty and faithful Algeria to put the file of history and memory in the path in which we can give full transparency, integrity and objectivity, away from any bargaining.” or concessions.” The President of the Republic affirmed by saying, “We look forward in the short term to achieving the hoped-for progress in this path, taking into account the importance of the work entrusted to the Joint Committee of Historians to address all issues, including those related to the recovery of archives, property, remains of resisters, nuclear tests, and missing persons.” He continued, “We have confirmed more than once that we are proceeding resolutely in defending the right of the Algerian people by intensifying efforts to address the issue of history and memory with courage and fairness, and by giving full clarity to this sensitive file.”

And the President added, “This memory, in which the Algerian people celebrate the National Day of Memory, commemorating the heinous massacres that were committed on the same day in the year 1945, is part of the eternal national days in which this great people created great historical glories and epics that will remain rooted in their conscience to kindle in our souls brotherhood.” It strengthens the national cohesion and ties to the homeland and sows in the conscience of the nation pride in the spirit of struggle and resistance that has taken root among the people of the honorable land of Algeria and through successive generations.

And the President of the Republic continued in the text of his message that Algeria gave birth throughout its ancient history to generations of citizens who resisted and struggled, attesting to its attachment to the ideals of freedom and dignity, considering that the work to dedicate May 8, 1945 as a national day of memory is nothing but a bright and strong expression of the authentic spirit of resistance in the nation adherence to these noble ideals. The president said, “The free patriots of the school of the national movement, over the bitter years of the national struggle, have been preparing for the hour of decisiveness in which the throats of the revolutionaries resounded in Setif, Guelma, Kharta, and other cities, on that fateful day that revealed the horror and horrific massacres committed by the extremist colonialists.” And that this crime against humanity was a starting point for the internationalization of the Algerian issue and its presentation in the corridors of the United Nations … until the spark of armed struggle emanated from the momentum of the desperate national struggle on the glorious November 1, 1954.

He stressed the need to delve deeper into writing the history of the Algerian people’s struggle, which lasted for more than 132 years, and said that “whoever does not know the history of his country and does not glorify its martyrs, cannot go far.”
