The President of the Republic highlighted, on Tuesday, in New York (United States of America), the significant gains achieved by Algeria in the field of achieving sustainable development goals and promoting and promoting human rights.
In a speech he delivered during his participation in the work of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the President of the Republic said that Algeria had adopted “the sustainable development plan and included it as a national priority within all government strategies and programmes,” stressing that this had enabled it to “make very important strides and achieve significant results in The path of the sustainable development goals, especially in the sectors of education, health, construction, electricity and water.”
In the same context, the President of the Republic considered that “more than 8 years after the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa Action Plan, many developing countries are still facing challenges that require greater solidarity at the international level for the sake of a better world and an effective and fair economic model that allows achieving… Sustainable development goals.
When addressing the issue of promoting human rights, President Tebboune said that “Algeria, which received the support and confidence of the member states of the Human Rights Council to obtain membership therein, is a party to international human rights treaties and works with all eagerness to strengthen its cooperation with them and continue its coordination with the various treaty bodies concerned with human rights.” Human rights and comprehensive international review mechanisms,” recalling Algeria’s submission in November 2022 of its fourth national report within the framework of this mechanism.
He stressed that Algeria “deeply believes that respecting and promoting human rights is the cornerstone of any credible political system and works to strengthen them by all possible means,” adding that it is a belief that stems from “the Algerian people’s adherence to human rights.”
He pointed out that the constitutional amendment of 2020 is “a testimony to our conviction of the necessity of strengthening rights and freedoms and that their essence can never be infringed,” as this amendment enshrined in its provisions – President Tebboune added – “equality between all citizens, both male and female, in rights and duties, in order to remove obstacles that prevent participation.” Effective for all, especially in the field of promoting women’s rights and developing them politically and economically in order to integrate them into positions of responsibility, achieve the principle of parity in the employment market, enhance their role in peace and security, and raise their status in various areas of life at the national, continental and international levels.”
In this regard, he explained that a practical national plan had been prepared within the framework of implementing a resolution issued by the Security Council, “through which Algeria commits to ensuring that the role of women in resolving and preventing conflicts is promoted in line with the principles of Algeria’s foreign policy.”
On the other hand, the President of the Republic touched on the enormous youth energies that Algeria abounds, for which curricula have been prepared that enable the provision of the institutional framework and material means to develop the capabilities of these energies and “integrate youth as a driving force in the paths of sustainable development and at all political, economic and cultural levels.”
