President Tebboune gave instructions to review the Basic Law of the Imam
The Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Youssef Belmehdi, confirmed on Monday, in Mostaganem, that the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, gave strict instructions to review the Basic Law of the Imam in order to take care of this category in various material and moral aspects.
Belmehdi said, during a press interview on the sidelines of a working visit and inspection of his sector’s projects in the state, that “President Tebboune gave strict instructions regarding the necessity of reviewing the basic law for imams, including what is related to their salaries, ranks, and promotions, and ensuring job housing, as is available in the states through the governors.”
In addition to the professional and social aspects of the imam, this important review includes other points such as the classification of mosques. In parallel, the minister stated that his ministerial department submits requests through the General Directorate of Public Employment to provide positions needed by the sector, stressing that those concerned are undergoing training in 14 national institutes and schools to be qualified in Quranic education, imamate, and others.
The minister continued, “We are also proceeding with the integration of the so-called imam and some volunteers, and we have sometimes reached 100 percent in this corps, and we seek to integrate the rest and take care of them.” During this visit, Belmehdi inspected the Badr Mosque in the center of Mostaganem, which will undergo a restoration process worth 5 million dinars in view of its historical and archaeological importance, according to the explanations provided by local officials.
In this regard, Belmehdi ordered the closure of this mosque space until the completion of the works in order to preserve the safety of the worshipers. The Minister also supervised the inauguration of the Uqba bin Nafi Mosque in the municipality of Sirat, which has a capacity to receive 1,500 worshipers, and the “Hamza bin Abdul Muttalib” and Al-Qaqa bin Amr Al-Tamimi mosques in the municipality of Mazgharan, which will be equipped with 4 functional housing, a car park, and two functional housing, respectively.
The Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Ould Abderrahman Kaki House of Mostaganem, supervised the opening of the first national forum on “The Role of Zawiyas and Quranic Schools in Consolidating Moderate Religious Discourse and Strengthening National Unity,” which lasts for two days.
