On Sunday, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, announced a set of new measures to support the journalism sector, most notably the launch of the Press Support Fund and the organization of the advertising market, as one of the forms of indirect support for the sector.
President Tebboune announced, in a speech delivered on his behalf by the Minister of Communication, Mohamed Laqab, during the award ceremony for the 9th edition of the Professional Journalist Award, that he had assigned the Minister of Communication and the Communications Directorate of the Presidency of the Republic to prepare a study to relaunch the Press Support Fund, whose function would be to support the media and an aspect related to journalists, especially training, in addition to To invite them to prepare a vision for organizing the advertising market.
The President also announced the approval of reductions in the cost of the Algerian News Agency line for the national media, as well as a reduction in the value of value-added fees, the rate of which will be determined and measures taken in the supplementary finance law.
The President of the Republic also decided to reduce the cost of housing websites at Algeria Telecom by a rate ranging between 33 and 36 percent while increasing its capacity, as well as reducing the rental price at the Press House, while assigning the Minister of Communications to find a final solution for security housing in Sidi Faraj in Algiers.
In the same context, the President decided to name the press centers in the stadiums after sports journalists, while approving a reduction in Air Algerie ticket prices for the benefit of sports journalists to cover African competitions, similar to the upcoming African Cup.
President Tebboune supervised the ceremony for distributing the ninth edition of the Professional Journalist Awards to the winners, which took place in the presence of senior state officials and members of the government, along with officials of national media institutions and guests from Arab media professionals.
The Ministry of Communication had allocated the topics “The New Algeria and the Problem of Food and Water Security,” “The New Algeria: Empowering Youth Energies and Creative Capacities,” and “Energy Security and Its Geopolitical Dimensions,” as topics for the ninth edition of the award, which witnessed the participation of hundreds of journalists in all media outlets.
