The sub-director in charge of protecting forest wealth in the General Directorate of Forests stated that during the past 20 years, an average of 30 thousand hectares affected by fire were counted annually, compared to planting 40 thousand hectares annually to compensate for these losses in order to ensure environmental balance in Algeria and to preserve forest wealth.
Freitas explained, in his interview with Channel One, that our forests are characterized by a fragile ecosystem despite its high biodiversity, and any change in this ecosystem endangers the forest, so it must be dealt with as a living organism that we preserve and value and not over-exploit, within the framework of sustainable development, highlighting The role of the General Directorate of Forests in accompanying the citizen to preserve the forest.
The same speaker noted that the approach to preventing forest activities is no longer feasible because the forest is close to the citizens’ homes, so we decided to open a few of them for investment and exploit their natural value to benefit from them, but not for full and complete exploitation because the basis is to preserve the forest.
Freitas stressed the importance of sensitization and awareness in order to reduce the attacks of the human element and resort to deterrence in some cases because it is a living space that has many benefits, as it is a source of the elements of life for the Algerian family.
The spokesman pointed out that the prevention of forest activities is no longer effective, due to the proximity of forests to citizens’ homes. Therefore, it was decided to open a small part of it for investment and environmental exploitation to enjoy its natural value, but without full exploitation, as the basis in this context is to preserve the forest.
Freitas stressed the importance of awareness and sensitization to reduce the damage caused by human activity, and to resort to deterrence in some cases, given that the forest is a living space with many benefits.
