Placement tests in the English language, for the benefit of new doctoral students – the Algerian dialogue

Placement tests in the English language subject for the benefit of new doctoral students were launched on April 25, and extend to April 27, at the level of 91 qualified higher education institutions. This is within the framework of implementing the initial training program in the third phase, which was stipulated in Resolution 14/19 signed by Professor Kamal Badari, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and issued on December 24, 2022.

The decision includes, according to the new approach adopted by the Ministry of Higher Education, the adoption of a support program for doctoral students, based on providing them with knowledge in English, educational (scientific research and technology), philosophy, and information and communication technology.

The placement process comes in order to distribute the students according to the different levels, which allows the actual launch of the English language teaching process, for each doctoral student according to his level. It is envisaged that students will have at least a B2 or C1 level in the English language.

It is worth noting that these placement tests were prepared for the first time by Algerian experts, who belong to the National Pedagogical Committee for English, relying on internationally recognized standards, such as electronic tests that were unified in terms of their formulation, conduct, correction, and immediate announcement of their results.
