Pictures: The arrival of the Algerian civil protection and aid team at Aleppo airport in Syria – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazaeryia

Today, Tuesday, the Civil Protection team, consisting of 86 aides of various ranks and specializations, arrived at Aleppo Airport in Syria.

And the Minister of Interior, Local Communities and Urban Planning, Ibrahim Murad, supervised, yesterday evening, Monday, at the air base in Boufarik, the process of sending 210 tons of humanitarian aid to Syria and Turkey, after the violent earthquake that struck the two countries in the early hours of yesterday morning.

By order of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the shipment and dispatch of this humanitarian aid took place in the presence of the Director General of Civil Protection, Colonel Boualem Bouglaf, and the President of the Algerian Red Crescent, Ibtisam Hamaloui, as part of the urgent humanitarian response to take care of those affected by the devastating earthquake.

This shipment consists of 115 tons of food, medicine, medical supplies and tents destined for Syria, in addition to a second aid shipment consisting of 95 tons destined for Turkey.

A squad of civil protection agents of various ranks, numbering 86 agents and officers, headed towards Syria.

In a statement to journalists during his supervision of this solidarity process, Mr. Mourad affirmed, “The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, was keen that Algeria be at the forefront of the countries that extend a helping hand to the two sisters, Syria and Turkey,” explaining that “the President of the Republic ordered all necessary arrangements to be put in place.” Algerian civil protection teams are among the first teams to reach the affected areas to provide a helping hand to the afflicted.”

“Civil protection agents are required to start their field work as soon as they arrive in the Syrian territory,” he said, noting that “the Algerian Red Crescent is recruited to provide the necessary support to our afflicted brothers.”

On the occasion, Mr. Mourad commended the efforts of the People’s National Army, since the first hours of the disaster, aimed at making this humanitarian mission a success.

For her part, the head of the Algerian Red Crescent, Ibtisam Hamalawi, confirmed that the squad heading to Syria consists of more than 40 volunteers and is trained in first aid, noting that communication is in place with the Syrian Red Crescent and the Turkish Red Crescent to monitor the real needs of the two countries.

In turn, the Syrian ambassador to Algeria praised the solidarity gift that Algeria had initiated towards his country in this difficult circumstance, stressing that the matter “is neither strange nor new for a country that has a distinguished history and long-standing fraternal relations with Syria.”
