Opening of the 71st ordinary session of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights – Algerian Dialogue

The Prime Minister, Ayman Ben Abdel Rahman, supervised today, Tuesday, at the International Conference Center “Abdellatif Rahal” in Algiers, the opening of the 71st ordinary session of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

In his intervention, the Prime Minister affirmed that Algeria is keen to defend the issues and interests of this continent, highlighting that the event is being held in light of the atmosphere of commemoration of the 69th anniversary of the outbreak of the blessed liberation revolution, the Conqueror Revolution of November 1954, which came as the culmination of a long path of resistance. Led by our people against colonialism, in defense of their usurped rights and human values, this revolution was and still is a source of inspiration for nations that yearn to be freed from the yoke of colonialism, and a reference in defending human and peoples’ rights.”

The Prime Minister also referred to the importance that Algeria provides to human rights, saying: “Our country’s embrace of this important African event in the field of human rights, which received the blessing of the President of the Republic, reflects in fact the importance that our country attaches to human rights and the work to protect and promote them, as well as the special interest in the dimension In Africa, Algeria, in its pioneering role in Africa, is very keen to defend the issues and interests of this continent, and to establish the principles of peaceful coexistence and defend the rights of peoples, foremost of which is the right to self-determination, which are rights that history commemorates the long and well-known path of your esteemed body in defending them by championing the issues. “Justice in the African continent, and history will also remember its judicial boldness and humanitarian touch in this field, especially in light of the failure of other platforms.”

By the way, the Prime Minister stressed Algeria’s position on the Palestinian issue, which affirms the right of the Palestinian people to exercise their basic rights in full and without compromise.

“Algeria, while following the dangerous and sad developments in occupied Palestine, affirms from this platform the right of the Palestinian people to exercise their basic rights in full and without compromise, especially the right to life, health, and to live in security and peace, and the right of the children of Palestine to live their childhood and enjoy it in accordance with stipulated in international conventions and treaties.

Algeria, which is among the 34 countries that ratified the protocol establishing the African Court, will host the activities of the 71st session of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, until next December 4.
