Naftal generalizes electronic payment by bank cards – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazaery
Today, Thursday, the National Company for Marketing and Distribution of Petroleum Products (Naftal) officially launched the first phase of circulating – through its service stations – electronic payment by bank cards (Seeb and Gold) via electronic payment devices provided by the Foreign Bank of Algeria.
The official launch ceremony of this new service took place at the level of the Naftal service station “Sidi Kabir” located in the wilaya of Blida, in the presence of the President and General Manager of Naftal, Abdelkader Chafi, and the President and General Manager of the Foreign Bank of Algeria, Lazhar Latrash, as well as executives from the two institutions.
This process falls within the framework of “the general policy of the Sonatrach group and in implementation of the instructions of the higher authorities of the country”, especially with regard to “promoting and generalizing digitization at all levels”, as confirmed by Mr. Shafi during a press conference organized on this occasion.
He added that NAFTAL had officially launched this service in cooperation with the Foreign Bank of Algeria, as an embodiment of the agreement signed between the two sides in April 2022, stressing that the matter is related to “the first phase of the actual deployment path, which aims to generalize the processing of all NAFTAL points of sale with card payment devices.” banking.”
This stage, Mr. Sharafi adds, concerns 400 service stations with direct operation, 8 green service stations, 47 Cergas centers, 46 lubrication and tire sales stations, 6 fuel sites (ports) and 5 exhibition halls, located on the entire national territory.
In this regard, he announced that this first phase will be followed by another phase that will include “the total number of service stations that bear the colors of Naftal, especially the free-running service stations (under the supervision of Naftal and private management, which are estimated at 250), in addition to approved sales points and regular vendors.” (whose number is 1597).
He also mentioned that electronic payment operations had been launched by Naftal in 2017, via prepaid cards that belong only to corporate customers, and accordingly, the launch of payment via bank cards will allow “all users of bank or gold cards to use them at the level of sales points affiliated to Naftal.”
This type of payment with bank cards guarantees “the security of transactions, the reduction of money circulation, the increase of transactions in a timely manner,” the same official continued, as well as the reduction of risks during the transfer of funds, adding that the External Bank of Algeria “guarantees the security of banking operations that take place between customers and service stations.
He added that the use of bank cards to pay for the services proposed by Naftal, “has many advantages,” especially serving the national economy, as it also allows facilitating the transactions of Naftal’s customers.
For his part, Mr. Latrash stressed the “durability” of the existing partnership between the two sides, noting that this first phase will be followed by another, “according to the strategy drawn up by the Foreign Bank of Algeria and Naftal within the framework of the digitization of the hydrocarbon sector.”
He also indicated that the second phase of expanding the use of electronic payment devices to all service stations will take place “during the year 2023.”
It should be noted that no less than 745 electronic payment devices have been allocated by the External Bank of Algeria, pending other operations.
And Mr. Latrash finally concluded that, in addition to payment through electronic payment devices, the process of payment via mobile phone is not excluded within the framework of accompanying Naftal in diversifying electronic payment methods for the benefit of its customers, whether they are private or corporate.
