The Minister of Irrigation, Taha Darbal, affirmed that his interests were determined to complete the desalination plants for potable water in order to secure the coastal states and all the way to the interior states for a distance of 150 km, after the drought that affected the country and countries in the Mediterranean basin.
In the same context, the minister revealed that his sector is counting on a project underway to construct five water desalination plants with a production capacity of 300,000 cubic meters per day, by the Ministry of Energy.
Taha Darbal hopes to expedite the construction of these important stations at an accelerated pace, and to deliver this project on time by the end of 2024.
And the minister said, “With the entry of these stations into service, the water that was taken from the dams and directed to drinking will be directed to watering agricultural lands directly, and therefore here lies the complete and integrated view in order to take care of drinking water and support the agricultural sector, which is considered an essential piece in National economy” .
