In a speech delivered on his behalf by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Justice, Ragaz Muhammad, Tabi explained during an international forum on “Artificial Intelligence, Digitization, Data Protection in Economic Development and the Role of Lawyers’ Organizations to Ensure Legal Security,” that it is necessary “for all lawyers to be involved in embodying principles and guarantees.” Which was enshrined in the Constitution and various legal texts in order to achieve legal and judicial security to attract investment and make Algeria a truly competitive destination in this field.”

He also highlighted the important role of the Defense Authority as, according to Tabbi, “an effective contributor to economic development and keeping pace with economic transformations by accompanying institutions and framing their activities from a legal standpoint.”

He continued, saying, “The legal profession works to protect and preserve defense rights and respect the principle of sovereignty the law“It constitutes a reliable pillar of the process of reforming the judicial system, which aims to bring about a qualitative shift in the judiciary as it is the basis for consecrating the state of right and law and promoting individual and collective rights and freedoms.”

On the occasion of organizing this international meeting, held in partnership with the European Federation of Lawyers’ Organizations, Tabbi pointed out that the rapid developments in the uses of artificial intelligence in judicial fields such as criminal justice “have begun to raise the concerns of many jurists, given its impact on human rights and the rule of law, which is an issue that “It requires – says Tabi – the governance of artificial intelligence by legal actors.”

In this context, Tabi called on the Defense Authority to “enhance international cooperation and exchange existing experiences to keep pace with developments taking place in the digital world, of which artificial intelligence is one of its forms, and this is within the framework of full respect for basic rights and freedoms, including the right to privacy and protection of personal data.”

Tabbi also stated that the justice sector is considered one of the “leading sectors in the field of integrating media and communication technologies into the judicial facility, with the aim of keeping pace with the requirements of the shift towards electronic administration and the digitization of judicial systems in order to facilitate and further improve citizen’s access to justice.”
