Launching of a special meeting on agricultural investment in the south – Algerian Dialogue


Today, Thursday, the meeting on the integrated approach to framing agricultural investment in the southern regions began, which brought together the energy and agricultural sectors.

According to what was reported on public television, the meeting aims to discuss the technical studies and maps that have been completed by various competent departments regarding the actual capabilities in terms of water and soil availability in the southern states.

The meeting also aims to identify the major oceans that will receive the integrated investment projects that require special accompaniment by all concerned sectors to be implemented on the ground as soon as possible.

In his speech on the occasion, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, revealed that the necessary resources had been harnessed to ensure that more than 100,000 agricultural investments were connected to electricity, 57,000 of which had already been connected.

Arkab indicated that the connection rate will reach more than 70 percent of the total number of farms identified by the end of this year.

For his part, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Youssef Charfa stressed, “Providing all the necessary capabilities that place farmers in the best conditions to achieve an abundance of agricultural products and position themselves on the international map of agricultural products.”

He added: “Saharan agriculture has witnessed a qualitative leap in terms of contributing to covering the national needs of agricultural production thanks to the expansion of the irrigated agricultural area, which was achieved with the strong support of the state.”
