The Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Issues confirmed that Algerian women’s attainment of the highest ranks and their holding of governmental, parliamentary and judicial positions was the result of the state’s policy based on supporting women in all fields, noting that education in Algeria is compulsory and free for all without discrimination, and the provision of training infrastructure in every region. The Minister praised the gains achieved by Algerian women in the speech she delivered yesterday at the International Forum on “The Experience of Uzbekistan and the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Supporting Women,” which is being held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, noting that Algeria always emphasizes the social nature of its development model through continuous care. To strengthen national solidarity programs and mechanisms to achieve social justice and equal opportunities in development, and this is embodied in the supreme law of the country according to the constitutional amendment of November 2020, after the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, came to power in Algeria in December 2019, as the 2020 Constitution stipulated the state’s commitment to protecting women. From all forms of violence in all places and circumstances, I thus recognized the principle of parity between men and women in the employment market, and in running for parliamentary elections under the open list after going through the quota experiment since 2008, in accordance with the organic law related to the electoral system for the year 2021.
The Minister added that supporting women requires providing them with social protection through a legislative framework capable of protecting them from all forms of violence, which was embodied in Algeria by constitutionalizing the principle of protecting women from all forms of violence in all places and circumstances, and enabling them to integrate into society through listening, accompaniment and support.
The Minister denounced the grave violations committed by the Zionist entity against the Palestinian people in general, and Palestinian women in particular, stressing that it is not possible to talk about international and national efforts to embody the effort to combat violence against women without denouncing the most heinous violations to which Palestinian women are exposed by the brutal Zionist occupation, which has become a form of violence against women. In resolving conflicts and empowering it economically to contribute to the post-conflict phase, which is what Algeria aspires to embody through its non-permanent membership in the Security Council in early 2024, through the axes of protection, prevention and participation.
