Khalid bin Mohammed: The general census of agriculture will avoid fluctuations in the prices of widely consumed items

The Director General of the National Office for Rural Development Studies, Khaled bin Mohammed, confirmed that the results of the General Census of Agriculture 2023 will allow anticipating and avoiding fluctuations in the prices of widely consumed materials.

In his intervention on the waves of the third channel of Algerian radio, Ben Mohamed explained that if the price changes are “surprising” now, the output of the general census of agriculture will make it “more flexible,” attributing these large differences in prices to “problems related to marketing, transportation, or lack of hand.” crop-gathering worker.

In this regard, the official considered that organizing the general census of agriculture “came at the right time,” especially since the last census of this kind dates back to 2001, and therefore its database is “outdated.”

“This census process will take place within three months, in order to obtain an immediate snapshot of the agricultural economy as well as information related to different productions to avoid the transfer of production from one region to another,” said the chief official of the National Office for Studies on Rural Development, which is overseeing the general census of agriculture 2023. Which may negatively affect the spatial distribution of production.

Thus, according to the speaker, the census will give the desired answers in terms of vision on the agricultural structure, especially the spatial distribution of production and land distribution (small, medium and large investments).

Bin Mohammed added that it will also provide a more accurate idea of ​​the structure of livestock, as well as information on employment and data on the age and types of investment officials.

This census will also contribute to revealing “certain changes in terms of agricultural practices and types of investments,” according to the official, who believes that “we are witnessing the emergence of industrial agricultural investments, which, by cultivating large areas within the framework of developing strategic crops, will provide very useful information about the agricultural economy, especially On the direction of production in the regions of the great south of Algeria.

Bin Mohammed indicated that this census “may allow the discovery of a number of emerging sectors that could form a founding element for other peoples in the future.”

The general census of agriculture 2023, which “includes all products practiced by agricultural investors,” will be conducted in two phases. The first is to “form a reference file based on the data developed by the statistical departments affiliated to the various directorates of agricultural interests,” the same official added.
