Algerian sports in 2024 were marked by many victories and achievements of athletes in various competitions, including three Olympic medals (two gold and one bronze) achieved during the Olympic Games in Paris, leaving the impression of a bright future for sports in the country.

With the participation of 46 athletes (27 male athletes – 19 male female athletes), the national elite shone in the Olympic arena, especially thanks to the achievements of Kylie Neymour, Iman Khalif and Jamal Sajati, thanks to whom the national anthem rang out in the sky of Paris, demonstrating the diversity

From athletics to gymnastics, through boxing, judo, and water sports (rowing and canoeing), the collective effort and individual achievements bore witness to the recorded development of national sports during the past Olympic era (2020-2024).

Young gymnast Kylie Nammour was one of the great discoveries of the 2024 Games by winning the precious metal medal for the unparallel bars. The 17-year-old dazzled everyone with her brilliant performance, combining elegance, artistry, and strength. This historic victory represents the first Algerian Olympic medal in gymnastics, and joins Nemours to the club of the best gymnasts in the world.

In boxing, Iman Khalif won a gold medal in the 66 kg category, becoming the first Algerian woman to win an Olympic gold medal for women and inspiring a new generation of female boxers. This coronation also confirms the determination of the Algerian woman who has always been able to make her mark in many fields, as she has always distinguished herself brilliantly on the international scene, leaving an imprint that will not be erased from the national memory.

For their part, the men also wanted to register their presence in this global event through talented athletes in a discipline that has always brought Algeria a lot of satisfaction, pride, and great results so far.

This time it is about the half-distance runner, Djamel Sjati, who gave Algeria a valuable bronze medal in the 800m race, after a race characterized by intense competition in which he demonstrated his high level and demonstrated his physical ability to climb onto the podium, confirming his status as one of the best half-distance race specialists in the world. .

The three Olympic medals allowed Algeria to occupy 39th place in the overall standings, a result that equals, in terms of outcome, the record of the 1996 Atlanta Games (34th place), when Algeria won two gold medals thanks to Noureddine Morsli (1,500m) and the late boxer Hussein Soltani. (less than 60 kg) in addition to a bronze medal for boxer Mohamed Bahari (less than 75 kg).

Certainly, the achievements of Neymour, Khalif and Sajati came to support the feeling of national pride and cohesion of the values ​​of sports, which will remain firmly established in memory and will be an inspiration for future generations.

The year 2024 also marked the brilliance of Algerian athletes in the African Games in the Ghanaian capital (Accra) last March, where they won 114 medals, including 29 gold, 38 silver and 47 bronze, many of whom were young talents, to finish the competition in fourth place.

Some other sports had a very good showing during the year, in which Algerian athletes recorded a significant improvement, especially in cycling, thanks to the “Madar-Pro” club, which won the UCI/AFRICA African title, after presenting an excellent season within the international group.

The “Madar-Pro” team’s victories were achieved by talented riders such as Nassim Saidi, who won the Tour of Algeria 2024, and Hamza Yssine, who shone in several stages in international competitions in Europe and Asia.

Added to all these results is the qualitative presence of Algerian athletes in continental and international competitions, where many of them won titles that confirm the honorable status of Algerian sports. The results recorded during the year 2024 reflect the great energy of Algerian sports and the tremendous capabilities of its athletes.

These victories and results will encourage athletes to set their sights on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics in the United States of America.
