International forum on school and university sports – Algerian Dialogue

Developing the practice of sports in school and university settings constitutes a “priority for the country’s highest authorities,” as confirmed, today, Saturday in Algiers, by participants during an international forum on school and university sports.

The forum, organized under the slogan: “School and university sports, Olympic values ​​and sustainable development,” featured the participation of the Minister of Sports, Walid Sadi, the President of the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee, Abderrahmane Hammad, representative of the Ministry of National Education, as well as the heads of the national sports federations.

In his intervention at the opening of the work of the International Forum on School and University Sports for the sake of a national plan to activate school and university sports, Mr. Hammad stated that: “The public authorities have made significant efforts in this regard, by creating a new regulatory and legal framework for managing sports policy in Algeria, which is “This reflects the commitment of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in this field.”

According to the President of the Olympic Authority, “the new legal texts give a special place to the development of school and university sports, as well as sports in the context of vocational training and education and in the national sports policy, within the framework of a clean competition system that responds to Olympic values.”

For his part, the President of the Algerian Federation for School Sports, Abdelhafid Izem, focused on the role of school sports associations in organizing, revitalizing and developing sports programs in the school environment.

In this regard, Izem stated that “the new legal texts for sports will provide support for school sports, especially with regard to benefiting from funding operations by the state, local groups, institutions, as well as public and private bodies,” noting that this “international conference will result in recommendations that will be presented to the public.” Ministries: Sports, National Education, International Education and Scientific Research.

In turn, the President of the Algerian Federation of University Sports, Saadi Lagdiri, in his speech entitled: “Algerian University Sports, Challenges and Prospects,” called for the preparation of a clear road paper to reach the goals set by the state in order to promote university sports and work to involve university associations and teams in sports activities. Organized by various national sports federations, as well as developing new financing mechanisms.”

The directors of university bodies in the country also called for the establishment of sports clubs in order to develop university sports based on grassroots training.”

For his part, Professor Fathi Yousfi, Director of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports at the University of Algiers 3, stressed the need to go to a new way of practicing university sports, and this is by valuing and unifying the efforts of the Algerian Federation of University Sports and the sub-directories charged with revitalizing sports life on the university campus and all the university’s interest bodies.

Yousfi, a member of the ministerial committee charged with developing and promoting university sports, considered that “university sports is on the right path and this meeting is an opportunity to promote university sports and make students benefit from these gains and favorable conditions for practicing sports, inside and outside university residences and attracting other sports associations.”

Algerian and foreign experts discussed many topics, including “Sports and Integrity,” “School Sports in Algeria, History and Experience,” and “Algerian University Sports, Challenges and Prospects.”
