In pictures.. The inauguration of the friendship group “Algeria – Zambia” – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazairia

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Diaspora Committee, Salim Merah, supervised today, Sunday, at the headquarters of the National People’s Assembly, the installation of the parliamentary group of friendship “Algeria-Zambia”, in the presence of members of this group from the Algerian side and their Zambian counterparts, as well as a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the national community abroad.

In his speech, Elid Merah indicated that this inauguration is of particular importance as it coincides with the current visit to Algeria by the Speaker of the Zambian Parliament, at the head of a delegation that includes the head of the Parliamentary Group for Friendship with Algeria, and expressed his hope that this group would constitute an additional source for the development of relations. The friendship between the two countries and the promotion of economic and trade cooperation between them in all fields.

Merah praised the continuous consultation between the two countries on regional and international issues of common concern, and also praised their role in promoting peace and stability on the continent and combating terrorism and violent extremism within the frameworks guaranteed by the African Union.

Merah stated that Algeria is still determined to continue the ambitious reforms initiated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune by advancing the pace of completion of major projects in all fields, stressing the desire of the Algerian leadership to consolidate relations of cooperation between the two countries, which reflects the importance of Zambia for Algeria.

For his part, the head of the Zambia-Algeria Parliamentary Friendship Group valued what was stated in Mr. Merah’s speech, and expressed his thanks and gratitude to everyone for the warm reception, explaining that this reflects the level of bilateral relations and the depth of the partnership between the two countries.

While taking the floor, Mohamed Amin Mabrouki, who returned to chair the group, stressed that the parliamentary friendship groups are channels of communication and means to deepen dialogue, aiming to strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation and provide opportunities for exchanging information and experiences in the political, economic, social and cultural fields between parliaments.

By the way, Mabrouki appreciated the coordination and support provided by the two countries to each other in the African Parliament, especially with regard to consultation on security and political issues to confront terrorist threats and contribute to the establishment of security and peace on the continent.

As for the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he mentioned the historical relations between the two countries, which are characterized by solidarity and mutual respect, and stressed Algeria’s keenness to strengthen these relations, especially after they were strengthened recently by appointing an ambassador to Algeria in Zambia, as well as by continuing to provide scholarships to Zambian students, and called for the need to expand areas of cooperation Given the current challenges, he urged adherence to everything that preserves the security and stability of the continent and contributes to serving the interests of its peoples.
