Yesterday, Monday, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, supervised the installation ceremony of Rachid Hachichi as Chairman and Director General of the Sonatrach complex, succeeding Tawfiq Hakar, in the presence of members of the complex’s board of directors and senior executives from the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Sonatrach, where the Minister of Energy and Mines praised the achievements made by the company in recent years in order to ensure the energy security of the country, as well as fulfilling contractual obligations with foreign partners. He also expressed the need to focus on highlighting new hydrocarbon resources and developing a program to develop and value them. By developing manufacturing industries, increasing national production, and creating new job opportunities.
During this ceremony, the Minister of Energy and Mines indicated that Mr. Rachid Hachichi is considered one of the best elite Sonatrach engineers with distinguished field experience in the field of hydrocarbons, as he held the position of Chairman and General Manager of the complex.
The Minister also expressed his confidence in the person of Mr. Rachid Hachichi, wishing him all the best, noting the necessity of achieving new explorations, developing fields, and enhancing export capabilities by relying on national competencies, in order to support the national economy and actively participate in the country’s energy transition. On this occasion, the President presented the Director-General Mr. Rachid Hachichi, thanked him for the trust he received from the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, stressing his commitment to spare no effort to achieve Sonatrach’s goals in meeting the nation’s energy needs and fulfilling the country’s international obligations.
During this ceremony, Mr. Rachid Hachichi presented the most important axes of the development road map for Sonatrach’s value chain, most notably the renewal of the company’s oil and gas reserves and the development of production, which is the vital backbone for supplying refining, liquefaction and petrochemical units, with an emphasis on developing transportation activities via pipelines and ships and marketing activity to enhance our sales in order to achieve The best added values, and he noted the role of the partnership as a strategic axis for Sonatrach.
In his intervention, the President and Director General focused on the importance of upgrading the human element and advancing it to the level of Sonatrach’s strategic challenges.
As a reminder, Rachid Hachichi, born in 1964, holds a state engineer certificate, class of 1987, from the National Institute of Hydrocarbons and Chemistry. He has 36 years of experience in Sonatrach. He has held several positions and responsibilities related to the upstream activity in the southern states (27 years) as well as at the central level (9 years). He headed the management of the Sonatrach complex in 2019.
